Jel Coward


Jel, originally from the UK, has a 20 year history in pre-hospital care. He has worked as a physician in urban street EMS, circuit and rally motorsport, remote expedition support, ski patrol and mountain rescue.

Jel’s passion for the outdoors and wilderness medicine stems from his years of whitewater kayaking and love of the mountains.

As Medical Director for WEMSI-International he has been involved in wilderness medicine education for 15 years, providing courses to the civilian and military sectors in Europe.

Jel is co-author and director of The CARE Course (Comprehensive Approach to Rural Emergencies), an interprofessional emergency care course for rural physicians, nurses and paramedics.

Currently, Jel is based in Pemberton, BC working in emergency medicine and family practice. He is medical officer for Pemberton Search and Rescue and works with the Blackcomb ski patrol.
